Succinct Writting

What Makes Writing Succinct?

Here is a student sample of some very concise writing that Dr. Carolyn received this semester from a student in her Introduction to Gender and Society course. Please read it.

Then make a copy of this Google Doc. On it, identify five (5) ways why this writer was so successful due to the writing style incorporated.

Why this item made the writing succinct
Attitude
This student showed great attitude in his/her writing. Through this paragraph the student was able to display his/her individuality and sincerity on the topic.  
Clarity
As reading the paragraph it is clear that no words were wasted. Each description was to the point and straightforward. An example is seen here in this quote, “She sits before me, a beautiful woman with striking fair skin and blue eyes.”
Narrative
The author of this passage uses a narrative to their advantage. He/she is able to further portray the story line through quotations. For example, “ “Women are out to fit the clothes, instead of vice-versa”.
Humanity
The author does a fantastic job at making the story unique to his/her personality. As you read the paragraph you are can determine that the author is understanding and perspective person.
Brevity
Even though the author has a lot to express, he/she is able to get the point across through adjectives, quotes, and description. However, the word choice is descriptive but succinct.
